Purpose: My life’s purpose is to bridge the gap between traditional medical knowledge and evidence based practices to further the field of sports medicine. Really, I just like monkey-ing around with movement. I like identifying and changing dysfunctional movement. I like teaching proper movement. Most of all, I like exploring movement for myself.

We the American working population
Hate the fact that eight hours a day
Is wasted on chasing the dream of someone that isn’t us
And we may not hate our jobs
But we hate jobs in general
That don’t have to do with fighting our own causes
We the American working population
Hate the nine to five day-in day-out
But we’d rather be supporting ourselves
By being paid to perfect the pasttimes
That we have harbored based solely on the fact
That it makes us smile if it sounds dope”

Derrick is a holistic sports medicine practitioner who combines the time-tested approach of traditional Chinese medicine with modern restorative techniques to provide the most comprehensive care for musculoskeletal wellness and injury rehabilitation.

For him, it’s all about restoring and improving how your body moves.

I’d like to think my combination of varied formal education and personal exploration into movement is what sets me apart from many other practitioners. I’ve been trained in some of the most ancient forms of medicine to treat pain and inflammation as well as the most modern therapies to improve mobility and rehab injuries to a fully functional level.

When I’m not listening to lectures, cracking books, or honing my skills with well respected practitioners, I’m outside putting theory into action. I’m constantly looking for physical endeavors to test my clinical practices and to push my own limits. If I’m not in the office, you can bet I’ll be snowboarding, backpacking, cycling, climbing, skiing, whatever.

My formal education and certifications include:
  • Licensed Acupuncturist
  • Certified Fascial Stretch Therapist
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist
  • MS in Acupuncture
  • BS in Rehabilitation Science
  • Minor in Fitness
  • Certificate in Pathokinesiology
  • Functional Movement Screen Certified
  • Selective Functional Movement Assessment Certified
  • 6 Month Apprenticeship in Sports Medicine Acupuncture
  • Multiple Clinical Rotations in the Athletic Training Room of CU Boulder
  • Patients include many professional and elite level athletes including NFL, MLB, NBA and UFC athletes
  • Over 8 Years of Experience as a Personal Trainer Specializing in Corrective Exercise
